Sun exposure

Life on earth depends on the sun, there is no doubt about that. It is a source of light, heat and energy. Throughout history, people have spent most of their lives outdoors, exposed to sunlight. In the last hundred years, we are less and less exposed to the sun. With the rise of cancer awareness, the medical concept is to avoid direct sun exposure, which can cause premature aging and skin soreness. But there are many virtues for the sun, and responsible and daily exposure to the sun can help maintain health and even heal.

Effects of sunlight on the body

  • There is evidence that the sun has metabolic effects similar to the effect of exercise on the body. For example, sun exposure lowers heart rate, respiration rate, lactic acid in the blood, and raises the level of oxygen in cells. This increases the body's resistance and energy levels in the body, and increases muscle strength .

  • Exercise is known for lowering blood pressure , and a solar bath has the same effect.

  • Exposure to sunlight can also lower blood sugar levels.

  • Exposure to sunlight, similar to exercise, strengthens the body's ability to cope with stress , and also calms the digestive system.

  • Exposure to sunlight alters cholesterol to vitamin D , raises blood oxygen levels and thus increases the ability of oxygen to be transported within the body. Consumption of vitamin D as a supplement has been proven to be less effective than sun exposure, as the body has an internal mechanism that regulates the production of the vitamin to the required levels only.

  • Sun exposure can cause skin aging. However, if you combine sun exposure with a balanced intake of vitamins (vitamin C, vitamin E, selenium, vitamin A) in their natural form (fruits and vegetables), the exposure responsible for the sun flexes the skin and makes it look younger and more alive.

  • There is a known link between long exposure to the sun and skin cancer. There are several accelerating factors for this: a high-fat diet, sun exposure to the point of burning, a weak immune system. Therefore if exposed to the sun, one should consume foods rich in vitamins, i.e. in its natural form. In addition, studies show that in sunny countries, although there are more cases of skin cancer, there are fewer cases of cancer of internal organs. Along with a dietary change, sun exposure in a controlled manner (as will appear below) helps the body fight cancer.

  • Sun exposure (to pre-burn levels) increases the amount of white blood cells in the blood, thus strengthening the body's immune system , and the body's ability to fight inflammation and disease.

  • The sun charges the air molecules with negative ions . Air saturated with positive ions contributes to headaches, nasal congestion, fatigue and dizziness. Negative ions on the other hand produce a feeling of freshness and joy. Air saturated with negative ions benefits with cancer patients, asthma, respiratory infections. So it is clear why in winter the morbidity increases: there is less sun, the houses are closed and do not get air saturated with negative ions, especially at night if the windows are closed.

  • The sun helps to neutralize the effects of environmental pollution on the body.

  • Exposure to the white light of the sun affects the brain in many ways: improves learning abilities , raises mood , lowers hyperactivity , encourages interest and curiosity, and helps in treating depression .

  • Sunlight also affects the hormonal system . It balances hormone levels in the body, so in cases of hormonal imbalance (such as menopause) sun baths are recommended for improving side effects. The melatonin levels in the body are also balanced, which is very important in the fight against cancer cells, and of course also affects the quality of sleep.

  • Sun exposure also helps in dealing with various joint diseases, quickly healing wounds , both external and internal, in balancing uric acid levels affecting gout, and skin diseases like psoriasis and acne.

Recommendations

  • If you are already exercising, it is recommended to do it outdoors . Like exercise, sun exposure should be done gradually .

  • Sleep with an open window at night to allow the flow of air charged with negative ions, and allow as much sunlight as possible to enter the house.

  • Solar Baths - How?

    • Exposure time - the sensitivity to the sun is individual and therefore the recommended exposure time to the sun varies: fair-skinned, blonde or redheaded people require at least some exposure time in the sun - a few minutes. Dark-skinned people need more sun exposure time. As a rule, one should stay in the sun for such a time that the skin does not burn or burn

    • Hours of the day - Daytime exposure is recommended during the hours when the sun is highest in the sky - ie noon. In hot summers it is recommended to pre-expose the exposure so as not to cause body warming.

    • The environment in which they are exposed also affects the recommended exposure time, because the environment reflects light in different amounts: for example, snow will reflect about 85% of the ultraviolet light, sand about 17% and grass only about 2.5%.

    • Wet skin will burn faster than dry skin

    • Expose to the sun as much as possible from the body , especially the abdominal area.

    • Do not apply sunscreen while sunbathing, or any other substance, including cosmetics.

    • It is advisable to take a sun bath every day , throughout the year , usually between 20-30 minutes

Pleasant sun!
